TOTD: May Day Lunch Box Economics

Thought of the Day - Lunch Box Economics

The Prime Minister's Stealing Advice

It is shocking to hear our Prime Minister trying to lecture our workers on how we should “steal other people's lunch boxes” in this year May Day celebration.

There are a few issues here:

1) To many Singaporeans who have lost their jobs to some cheap foreign substitutes, all thanks to PAP’s FT policy which encourages and allows millions of foreign labour to come to Singapore and work under the guise of job creation for Singaporeans, this is a totally ironic statement that needs cynical mocking! PAP government is the one who helps Foreigners to “Steal” our lunch boxes right at our doorstep and yet the PM has the cheek to tell us go and steal othet people's lunch boxes? That's basically shameless!

2) PAP government has basically stolen part of our workers’ lunch boxes recently, practically reducing the size of our lunch boxes by increasing Water Fee by 30%, Electricity tarriff, cooking gas and we expect more to come。。。 maybe GST or public transport fares. Can PAP stop stealing our luncheon meat from our lunch boxes?

3) In all international free trade agreement negotiation, all countries will try very hard to protect their own citizens’ lunch boxes but only PAP would sell our workers out by agreeing UNLIMITED foreign labour to come to this tiny red dot to steal Singaporeans’ lunch boxes! Oh while talking about this, I wonder how PAP and PM are going to negotiate more favorable FTA terms when other countries will now be extremely wary about PAP‘s intention of stealing their citizens’ jobs!?

4) Most probably our PM has run out of ideas in ensuring our own citizens can have meaningful well paying jobs insteas of facing rising unemployment rate. Lim Swee Say could actually say that jobs are not lacking but it is Singaporeans who do not have the skils! Hey, Singapore is a First World Country with best universities, tertiary institutions and education system in this part of the world! Many people from surrounding third world developing countries yearn to study in our schools! How could our education system unable to provide the necessary knowledge and skills for Singaporeans to get decent paying jobs while foreigners from third world countries could have those skills instead? He is basically insulting our intelligence!

5) The economic theory of Free Trade and Globalization isn't based n stealing other people's lunch boxes. If that is the case, no country would want to open up trade. The fundamental Free Trade is not based on competitive advantage but rather comparative advantage. It strives to provide win win situation instead of cannibalism if lunch boxes from others. Maybe our PM and the whole cabinet of million dollar ministers should go back to school learn basic economics fundamental

The Incoherent Excuses

First, it was Minister Lim Swee Say who said there is no lack of jobs in Singapore but it is Singaporeans "lack of skills" to take up these jobs.

Then we have Minister Ong Ye Kang who said Singapore capped the number of Singaporeans studying in local universities at 30%!

Now, it seems that the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing! If PAP is to cap the number of Singaporeans from obtaining the highest learning of knowledge and skills at 30%, no wonder we are lack of "skills" while we have to import so many Degree Holders (some with dubious certificates) from Third World Countries!

Job Reality on the Ground

We seemingly have a bunch of ministers who have totally lost touch of the ground. On one hand the Ministers think by capping the number of Singaporeans going to local Universities could prevent more Singaporeans from being unemployed graduates, thinking that by having more poly and ITE graduates with skills training, will make them more employable while the other Minister thinks that there are jobs but Singaporeans lack the skills...

If 70% of Singaporeans are already sent to poly and ITE, why are Singaporeans still lacking of skills?

The truth is, everyone who have education in Singapore should have acquired a certain skill sets and definitely so for university graduates.

The truth is, most of the time Singaporeans without a university degree will be scorned and salaries suppressed because employers will say "at this salary of xxx I can employ a FT with degree or even a master degree blah blah blah"....All thanks to PAP's extremely lax FT policy!

The Major Irony

Ironic... while PAP keeps talking about continuous Life long learning and upgrading, but in the end they want to restrict the number of people going to local Universities at 30%!

And PAP always lament Singapore does not have even "Talents" thus needs Foreign Talents from Third World countries but now we know it is PAP itself which deliberately restricts Singaporeans from grooming into Talents by depriving them a place in Universities via setting this limited quota!

Do you see the True Color of PAP yet?

Even if 70% can see the True Color of PAP, I think they are still not ready to vote for an opposition which is not united or ready to be govt, or for political parties which do not even have a proper party office of their own.

In other words, these are fly by night politicians, surfacing only during election time and after that, other than through blogging or FB, promptly disappeared, unseen and unheard on the ground.

So majority voters perceive, and rightly too, that such a govt of the opposition if voted into power, will be even worse than PAP.

Now seriously speaking, don't you agree too, Mr Goh?

Sometimes the truth if spoken, hurts. But it needs to be spoken as a reminder to these parties to wake up.

I think LHL, if he happened to google PPP now, must be quite happy to see PPP still using TKL office as their party address and office since Sep 2015 or even earlier.

It means PPP is not able to steal LHL's million dollar lunch.

An Economist beautifully explained two reasons for having 2 parties.
A- Monopoly should be broken.
B- Competition improves the quality of service.
If u have 1 party, they fight with u!
If u have 2 parties, They will fight for you!!

Same as 2 wives.

Dear, dear, we No 1 .Crime has become part of the country's vocabulary. Typical normal for the country now. No outlet for stress and the high cost of survival.

1) 24-year-old jailed for trespassing, drug offences and throwing Molotov cocktail into a flat.

2) Knife-wielding man arrested in Teck Whye for theft, attempted suicide after 5-hour standoff

3) Singaporean man in custody after attempted murder of woman in Brisbane.

4) Fire breaks out at Shenton House.

5) Body of a man found hanging under bridge above Bedok Canal.

6) A former Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) major was convicted on Wednesday (May 3) of two counts of insulting the modesty of a woman, after taking multiple upskirt videos of a 26-year-old colleague.

7) 2 men fought over money at a coffeeshop in Anchorvale, but one of them winded up dead after taking 2 punches to the face.

8) 3 clinics served notices for making Chas claims for non-existing consultations and treatments.

9) Woman who filmed females in gym changing room gets 30 weeks’ jail.

Too much upgrade peeper cannot keep up. This is less than a week what has been.

The overcrowding where people do not have room to breath. They are overly stressed out on the daily high paced of living. Notice the "crime alert" notices almost in all corners. Why do people do crimes when the penalty wasn't even worth it and one is marked for life ? Do they have a choice ? Are some people being pushed to the limit ? Consider there are only a few millions of the population , is the ratio high compared to other countries? When one is only moving around with top circles with money and the space to do as one like, can they really understand what the lower end is going through? Especially mostly the latchkey kids which is predominant in todays society. A society which looks good from the outside but without soul.

God Bless.

This is nothing compared to the old days when gangsterism is rife.

Businesses even had to pay "protection" money to organised crime and gangsters. No such thing now.

So on crime matters, we have come a long way since the bad old days.

My colleagues and I were at the food court for lunch today. We had only a few hundred dollars left till end month pay day. We were looking for lunches to steal as hopefully we would have been able to get away if it was what the PM wanted us to do? Unfortunately lunches were not appetising as they were all half eaten .Besides most food was not halal.

Goh Meng Seng, I think that is not the correct or accurate way to describe the situation.

Because I don't think the ministers do not know what is happening on the ground. On the contrary, they fully know.

Rather, it is that having evaluated the situation on the ground, the ministers have concluded that they can well afford to ignore what is happening on the ground without any risk at all to their dominant political position. Meaning PAP can still win elections and win big, thanks in part to opposition leaders the likes of Goh Meng Seng and Tan Jee Say.

I am totally flattered to people here who think that it was me or my party that make PAP dare to do what it is doing right now. But I am sorry to say that, my small party does not have that impact at all.

More likely, PAP is extremely confident of the situation due to the fact that the biggest opposition party in Singapore has screwed up BIG TIME and they will have a wonderful time to whip that Town Council Dead Horse over and over again until the next General Elections so to remind voters that that's the competency level of "opposition" if they voted for them...

But Alas, it is definitely NOT fair to small party like mine; though small, but definitely not so screw up, lest incompetence!

Good Day, Mr. Prime Minister,
We were intrigued by your tone. It must be a trait that your ministers are only interested in their territorial self first and last. Milk powder and plenty other incidents by the press coverage only opened eyes and ears. Are they not even aware?
All sleeping on the jobs or one territory is afraid of offending other by not bringing it up. We were now told to be thieves.

Amusing that Sing Pore Corporation Pte Ltd was supposed to be a rich country, we were now told to be thieves. Instead of your supposedly high level sophisticated Ministers bringing in foreign investments to oblige jobs for the people, your Ministers are only a well organised operation in tackling issues with 'If you do this you pay $$$$$$. If you do that you pay $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. If you don't do it you pay $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

The lingering question mark ? Would you be gracious enough to cool GST, COES, LEVIES, TAXES, SERVICE CHARGE, ABSD, SSD, GOVERNMENT LAND PRICES, MILK POWDERS etc. They only go one way that is up. These $$$$$$$$$$$$$ cooling measures? Property prices high, so are the coffers!
Please do not be utterly hooked on making the city an expensive place for foreign investments. If you care for the noble people please find a balancing act, one that is not only tilted to your way. Cheerio.
