Pork Barrel Politics
For those of you who understand Mandarin, the following video of a Malaysian opposition DAP candidate will make some resonance to many of us in Singapore.
The main point is about Malaysian ruling alliance National Barisan are good at giving out goodies like infrastructure development to those constituencies that have by-elections.
The most prominent point is that there is a danger for a ruling party or alliance to utilize government funding for its own electoral interests. This is basically because if the ruling elites are allowed to do that, it would mean that government funding will be directly used for ruling political parties' interests instead of the Nation or the people. It would mean that the party will put party's interests above National interests and people.
It is a very good point for every voters to recognize this vital point.
